Bitesized Driving IdeasLife is always changing, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Here are a few thoughts on what can be done or changed on the roads from learner drivers to experienced drivers. Everyone has their own ideas about what can be done, but having a reasonable degree of experience in all sorts of motor 'stuff'. Depending on who you talk to, Great Britain has a pretty good road safety record. I say 'depending on who you talk to', as it is a better record than most other countries, but at the same time any deaths or injuries are too many.
Don't get me wrong, I am certainly happy to live in a country that has, on average, a reasonably good driving safety record, but at the same time I am keen to to improve safety as it will not only potentially help myself and family, but also may prevent untold misery to other families. Compulsary Driving Lessons
As the situation is at present, you do not have to take any driving lessons from qualified driving instructors. The only thing that is compulsary is to pass a 40 minute driving test. Although this is a good start, in my mind '40 minutes' is inadequate to ensure a good overall driver. Even though having compulsary driving lessons is no guarantee to being a good driver, it would undoubtedly help to have some professional instruction. Even if it can be argued that some people will need instructon from a proper driving school, it should still bring everyones standard up to some extent - either a little or a lot, and every little helps. If you take a look at two individuals, one may have had dozens of driving lessons Birmingham, while his friend in the same city, may just have had input from his parents. There is nothing to say that the one who had the professional driving lessons will be a better driver, but making the one who has learned with his parents take at least some private driving lessons will undoubtably help. The Minimum Age For Lessons Or LicenceThe most likely age group to be involved in a collision are the young. This may well be obvious, but the simple step of increasing the driving age could well go some way to reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries on the road. Compulsary Post Test Training'Pass Plus' is a non compulsary additional training programme which involves a minimum of 6 hours of lessons which must be taken after passing the driving test. Completion of the Pass Plus course is proven to reduce the chances of being involved in a collision. Having completed the course, you will often be entitled to reductions in car insurance premiums, which also provides the financial incentive to do something that could save your own or someone elses life. Making something like this compulsary to all drivers could go a significant way to making the UK roads much safer. |
