DrivingDriving has revolutionised the way we live. Everything we do, buy, everywhere we go, holidays etc. are unimaginably different than they would be without being able to drive. The quality of life has been masively impacted by driving. The additional quality of life makes the safety debate much more difficult to maneouvre through. For example, how many lives have been saved by people being able to drive and have easy access to a car. Driving has almost become a right as opposed to a privelege. People complain about examiners (maybe sometimes rightly) as opposed to being fussy about their own performance. People blame the speed cameras and the police as opposed to dealing with their own driving skills and attitude. I personally think that penalties should probably become slightly stricter. Granted, lots of people would begin to lose their licence at first, but the need for good driving would soon catch on! I often wonder, when it comes to safety things if the public should not be given a say, as people are unlikely to vote for things that would inconvenience themselves as opposed to sacraficing their own comfort for the sake of the greater good. If you were to compare driving in the UK to that in most other counties there would be little contest. But is that good enough? But, on the other hand, I do like living in a democracy! |
